Here, contemporary architecture meets the serenity of cobblestone streets. Here, exclusivity meets both the river and the sea.
The Montebelo homes aim to settle gently into the delicate fabric of Foz Velha—at times by rehabilitating existing buildings, at times by introducing new residences that, through location and thoughtful design, allow us to read the original landscaped property’s boundaries and dimension.
Among gardens, courtyards, shared spaces, and pathways, we sought to shape a collection of homes that maintain their autonomy within the continuity of an open, tree-filled, landscaped setting. In redrawing these surroundings, no care is excessive. Our hope is that the materials will blend into this context, lending them the dignity of the old, ordinary neighboring structures… and that time will allow the buildings and their greenery to merge with each other and with the nearby natural environment.
Architecture
A project signed by architect Nuno ValentimNuno Valentim, Arquitectura e Reabilitação is an architecture studio founded in 1997 in Porto. It has more than 180 projects of various scales, programs, and contexts. Among them, notable works include the rehabilitation of Casa Andresen/Galeria da Biodiversidade and Casa Salabert in the Porto Botanical Garden, the expansion of the Lycée Français in Porto, and the Rehabilitation/Modernization of the Bolhão Market. Its practice is closely attuned to the physical and human reality in which it operates, understanding architecture as an act of synthesis between program and context, with the architect seen as both the author and a key player in responding to social, environmental, and landscape challenges.
